The Confederation of Villages with the Museo Reina Sofía

“The Confederation of Villages came together for the first time in February of 2021 to discuss their vision for their project and spread awareness of rural art.”

Campo Adentro hosted a series of workshops, presentations, and group bonding events over Zoom in February 2021. Members of each ConV partner association gathered to share ideas in a casual environment, engaging in activities designed to connect them with ConV’s central mission. The partners came together to map different pastoralist initiatives across Europe, discussing which ones could be considered for collaboration with the Confederation of Villages in the future. This gathering was also an occasion to sketch out the basis of the ConV manifesto before discussing it with other rural arts initiatives and releasing it to the public.

The Museo Reina Sofia generously partnered with the project by hosting the Confederation of Villages’ public seminar and closed roundtable. The seminar was an opportunity for each of the partners to present their facet of ConV’s project to a wide audience with an interest in art and engage the urban public in discussions about the role of art in the rural. In addition to the public, Campo Adentro invited a variety of rural arts initiatives to participate in the seminar and the closed round table, during which these organisations shared and discussed the aims of the manifesto.

Because of these initiatives, participants were able to engage with the Confederation of Villages’ mission, vision, values and objectives, declaring their commitment to uphold them. This public conference and other collaborations resulted in broad arts-interested audiences receiving information about the project and gaining insight on the work of socially-engaged organisations working in rural areas. Lastly, Campo Adentro was able to receive and learn from the audience’s feedback about the role of art in the rural.
