The Farmer's Arms - Grizedale Arts

“For centuries, The Farmer’s Arms at Lowick Green / Spark Bridge saw people, goods and ideas come and go from its location at the top of the beautiful Crake Valley, on the edge of the Lake District National Park.”

After closure and two years of neglect, Grizedale Arts is now working with local people to return this historic inn to its place at the heart of the community, where it can once again inspire and nurture both locals and visitors. Just four months since we started we already have busy volunteer days at work refurbishing the building, sold-out education classes and a successful shop both at the inn and here online.

The historic building, and the traditional hospitality and respite of the inn will always remain as its foundation in this renewed enterprise, yet creative thinking and opportunities for learning and taking part underpin every detail of how and why we do things.

We continue to build a multi-generational programme based at the inn, offering access to crafts, horticulture and the arts: We believe that everyday creativity forges new routes to collaborative thinking and doing, as well as to personal growth. We are also committed to developing exchanges between the inn’s local, national and global communities, delivering online events for remote audiences, connecting extensively via social media and taking part in worldwide rural enterprise networks.
