The KF Artist Residence hosted an international artist for a month-long research residency in Klöse and its surrounding communities. The artist stayed at KF Huset and collaborated with local artists and organizations focused on the River Lögdeälven. Through community workshops, the residency explored rural identity, agriculture, ecology, land, and territory.
The residency centered around the river, which attracts tourists and sports fishing enthusiasts while former productive farms lie abandoned. The artist delved into the potential of transforming these farms into platforms for cultural production, considering how to reconnect with the river while preserving its biodiversity. The selected artist brought a socio-political and eco-centric perspective to address rural challenges through artistic research.
During the residency, the artist engaged in practice-based research alongside students from Konstfack’s Rural Design project. A workshop organized by Konstfack University of Arts Craft and Design, Ledusjö Timmerhus, and local stakeholders explored artistic research in rural art, design, and architecture. The Municipality of Klöse facilitated communication and dissemination.
The residency facilitated deep understanding of community challenges for the artist, who identified areas of interest rooted in existing resources and vernacular knowledge. Participants gained fresh perspectives on rural identity, while the local population actively contributed to the conversation. Collaborative workshops focused on vernacular architecture recovery engaged the local population, artists, and students.
