Research Residency – Another Art

#AnotherArt
“Artists Ella Klaschka, Olivier Foulom, and representatives from MCM Permacultura spent 11 days in Armenia planning the future centre for Another Art's activities.”

Over an 11-day period, in June of 2021, Another Art invited artists Ella Klaschka from Germany, Olivier Foulon from Belgium, and representatives from MCM Permacultura collective in Italy,to participate in a research residency in Armenia. The project’s initial phase, which concluded in June 2021, involved bringing together these artists/practitioners specializing in permaculture, agro-ecology, and ecological architecture.

During the residency, they engaged in semi-formal and formal meetings with local advisers, including farmers, builders, and artists. These meetings included visits to local orchards, gardens, farms, homes and workspaces, as well as presentations in schools and community spaces to share experiences and involve a wider audience. The residency aimed to draw upon the expertise of both the practitioners and local advisers to envision and plan the future centre for Another Art’s activities.

With the aim of sharing knowledge and providing an experience consistent with their mission, Another Art representatives Ayreen Anastas and Rene Gabri planned workshops, seminars, discussions, residencies and food production demonstrations, all focusing on ecological and economical development methods. The project’s outcomes included construction and landscape redesign plans for the centre, including transforming the existing orchard into a polyculture food forest and repurposing the buildings for various artistic and agricultural functions.

Throughout the residency, the practitioners collaborated with producers, farmers, builders, historians, and artists from the region, fostering community engagement and inspiring youth in nearby schools and villages to reimagine possibilities for their lives and environments in the countryside.
